5 tips for choosing a compact two-storey home for a young family
A compact two-storey home can feel spacious with the right layout. Check these five things before choosing a unit.

With land prices rising, compact two-storey homes are increasingly popular. The plot is efficient, but there is still enough room for a family. To choose well, consider these five points.
1. How the floors are divided
Ideally the shared spaces (family room, kitchen, dining) are on the ground floor and the bedrooms upstairs. This keeps daily life comfortable and the bedrooms private.
2. Light and airflow
Look for enough window openings, especially on the stairs and in the bedrooms. Tall or arched windows let light reach further inside.
3. Number of bathrooms
In a two-storey home, two bathrooms (one on each floor) are far more practical, especially with young children or elderly parents.
4. The cluster environment
Compact homes are usually close together, so the neighbourhood matters: one-gate security, a communal garden, and well-planned streets.
5. Your installment budget
Use the mortgage calculator to estimate the monthly installment before choosing a type. Ideally it should not exceed a third of household income.
